1) The Purge- 36.3 weekend, 36.3 total
Opening above… literally everyone’s expectations. No one got this right. The Purge annihilated the competition, making 36.3 million, far surpassing all competition. The low budget work will have to contend with mixed reviews and Superman opening next week, so don’t expect it to repeat at #1.
2) Fast and Furious 6- 19.7 weekend, 202.9 total
Dropping gently by 43% was Fast 6, which also broke 200M this weekend.
3) Now You See Me- 19.5 weekend, 61.3 total
Proving to be a bit of a crowd pleaser, the magic caper film dropped only 33% in week two. That’s really amazing. After next weekend, the film should have surpassed its 75M budget domestically.
4) The Internship- 18.1 weekend, 18.1 total
Following up the disappointment of After Earth is The Internship, becoming the summer’s second major flop. 4th place opening, below expectations. It is unlikely that it will make back its 58M budget domestically. This Is The End will take a large chunk of the comedy audience away starting on Wednesday.
5) Epic- 12.1 weekend, 84.1 total
Epic continues to chug along to the 100M mark, dipping only 27% from last week. Epic will be largely unphased by the opening of Superman on Friday, so it should get right up to that mark before Monsters University encroaches on its territory on the 21st.
6) Star Trek Into Darkness- 11.7 weekend, 200.1 total
7) After Earth- 11.2 weekend, 46.5 total
8) The Hangover 3- 7.3 weekend, 102.3 total
9) Iron Man 3- 5.7 weekend, 394.3 total
10) The Great Gatsby- 4.2 weekend, 136.1 total
Frances Ha- 590K weekend, 2.3 total
Before Midnight- 585K weekend, 1.5 total
The East- 247K weekend, 354K total
The Kings Of Summer- 220K weekend, 302K total
Much Ado About Nothing- 183K weekend, 183K total
