No Good Deed easily topped the box office this weekend, giving it a shot in the arm after last weeks crappy totals. A really solid 11K PSA and a B+ cinemascore suggest this film might even have some legs. Dolphin Tale 2 managed an A cinemascore, and attracted a whole bunch of families who have already seen the Turtles in action. Guardians broke 300M after dropping only 22%. Turtles dipped only 26%. Cops dropped 22%. If I Stay dropped 27%. The Giver dipped 23%. Hundred Foot Journey dropped 21%. It was very much about catching up on summer holdovers this weekend. The harshest drop in the top 10 was The November Man, which still dropped a respectable 36%.
In limited release, The Drop made it to 6th in only 809 screens with a 5K PSA (which was actually higher than Dolphin Tale 2’s PSA). The Skeleton Twins had a huge debut on 15 screens with a 27K per screen average. Atlas Shrugged 3 had more screens, but only a 1,467PSA (lower than Love Is Strange at 3,725PSA). The other success story was The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby, which rode solid reviews to a 19K PSA in the first week.
