Weekend Box Office: ‘Maleficent’ Crowned Queen

Posted on the 02 June 2014 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

1) Maleficent- 70M Weekend, 70M Total

The big question now is will Maleficent stay strong? Critics weren’t very kind, but audiences fell in love and gave the film an A cinemascore. A!!!! That should indicate some staying power in the coming weeks.

2) X-Men: Days Of Future Past- 32.6M Weekend, 162.0M Total

Down 64% from the previous week. That’s odd… considering X-Men also got an A cinemascore from their audiences. Hopefully the freefall will stop next week.

3) A Million Ways To Die In The West- 17M Weekend, 17M Total

Audiences were less pleased with the Seth Macfarlane comedy, which opened below everyones expectations. He got only a B cinemascore, putting it on par with Neighbors. With such little buzz to start on, A Million Ways will fizzle out quickly this summer.

4) Godzilla- 12.2M Weekend, 174.6M Total

Down another 60%.

5) Blended- 8.4M Weekend, 29.6M Total

Down 41%. Not bad. Still, there’s not a lot of room to fall here. Even if it continues to slowly decline, it can’t really make it much past 50M.

6) Neighbors- 7.7M Weekend, 128.6M Total

7) The Amazing Spider-Man 2- 3.7M Weekend, 192.7M Total

8) Million Dollar Arm- 3.7M Weekend, 28M Total

9) Chef- 2.0M Weekend, 6.9M Total

10) The Other Woman- 1.4M Weekend, 81.1M Total

11) Belle- 1.2M Weekend, 6.2M Total

12) Rio 2- 1.0M Weekend, 124.2M Total
