This lovely wedding in purple was held at such a scenic place - from outdoor areas to the winery that was just full of charm. You'd fall in love on how beautiful Italy is. And aside from that, you'll also fall in love with the amazing DIY details this wedding had. Our bride's wedding gown was actually made by her mother - talk about being a hands on mom! What is the overall story for this album?
I was lucky enough to photograph the beautiful wedding of Julie and Deneb, the sweet Italian American union as I called it. It took place in Gavi, Italy, located in the Piemonte region not far from the fashion hub of Milan. The wedding wedding was called L' Ostelliere, which operates a hotel, restaurant, and winery alongside its rolling vineyards in which it makes its own wine. Besides the gorgeous views in every direction, there were so many lovely details I wanted to share. Specifically lots of DIY (though still glamorous) touches: from the dress handmade by the brides mother; the ceremony the bride's father officiated; to the music during the ceremony, apertivo hour, and party, with musician friends of both the bride and groom performing. However, quite possibly the best part included a candle-lit walk through an 18th century wine cellar; simply stunning. The evening ended with a rock band in which the groom was the drummer, rockin' tunes into the wee hours of the night outside the rolling hills.
What inspired the wedding day outfits?
The groom was Italian chic in a dapper light grey suit, very Ocean's 11. The bride was in a dress hand-made and sewn by her mother, who even put the final touches on just before her daughter walked down the aisle. The rest were inspired by the beautiful Italian summer wildflowers that grow in the vineyard and hills beyond.
What was your favorite part of the day?
By far my favorite part of the day was the absolutely gorgeous candle lit walk through an 18th century wine cellar. Guests took this romantic walk after the ceremony as they were led out to the patio for cocktails. It was very tricky to photograph but I think I managed to capture both the quality of the candlelight and the delight on guests faces as they experienced the beauty of this dimly lit slice of heaven.
Was there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?
There were quite a few DIY pieces to this wedding. The first piece being the bride's dress as described earlier which was hand made, sewn, and altered on the spot by the bride's mother. The groom's father officiated the ceremony. Friends of the bride and groom played during the ceremony and into the wee hours of the night during their party. Even the groom joined in on the drums!
What were the highlights from the ceremony & reception?
The reception was set on a an absolutely stunning hill overlooking Gavi, in the Piemonte region of Italy about an hour south of Milano. Nothing but rolling vines in all direction as far as the eye could see. White linens and furniture kept the color to the flowers, and respectively matching color palette for groomsmen and bridesmaids. A miniature string quartet, friends of the bride and groom, welcomed them down the aisle for the brief ceremony. Dinner was inside the wine cellar, with beautiful old brick walls lining a room filled with oak barrels.
What part of the ceremonies do you think was the most memorable for the bride and groom?
I think the band at the end during their party was icing on the cake, pun intended. The groom performed while the bridge danced in adoration.
