Web3 donates millions in cryptos to Turkey following devastating earthquakes

Turkey receives millions of dollars in cryptocurrency donations after a rash of devastating earthquakes.

Nearly $9 million has been given by Binance, Tether, Bitfinex, OKX, and Kucoin to help the people who were hurt by the big earthquakes that hit Turkey and Syria early on Monday morning.

As the number of deaths increases, more than 7,000 people have died and more than 20,000 have been hurt—the crypto community shows again that it is willing to help with humanitarian efforts.

The Avalanche Foundation gave $1 million worth of AVAX tokens to help raise money.

“Turkey is close to the heart of the Avalanche Foundation and community, and the funds will help people recover faster in the wake of this tragedy,” said Executive Director Aytunc Yldzl. “It is time to come together and show that crypto is a force for good and a sign of hope for all of us hurting.”

“The recent earthquakes in Turkey have had a devastating impact on so many people and communities. We hope that our efforts will bring some relief to those affected. We are also calling on our industry peers to once again come together to offer support in these times of crisis,” In a press release, Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance said.

Zhao tweeted, “It’s time to take care of our users.” He also said that the cryptocurrency exchange would give $5 million worth of BNB, or $100 (1883 TRY), for free to users in the region.

After the earthquake and the shocking number of deaths, Bitfinex, Keet, Synonym, Tether, and other companies promised to donate 5 million Turkish Lira, or $266,000.

In a news release, Tether said that the disaster was large and terrible. “Turkey and everyone who has been hurt is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Justin Sun, who made Tron, gave $1 million in TRX from Huobi Global to help people in need after a disaster.

After Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, members of the crypto community, like Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, gave millions of dollars to the Ukrainian government and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

Multiple DAOs have formed in the past 48 hours to help humanitarian efforts, just like Ukraine’s DAO did last year. As with other times when there was a rush to raise money after a big tragedy, some may be scams.

To help the poor, these groups need to be checked out. Endaoment and The Giving Block make it easy for people to donate cryptocurrency to charity.
