WD MyCloud Launch Errol Merioles with Ethel Merioles

Converting my siblings into blogging mavens is proving to be a hard thing to do. Nonetheless, at least I got to attend the Philippine launch of Western Digital’s network attached storage (NAS) devices, the My Cloud Personal Cloud Storage and My Cloud EX4. Both are external hard drive systems that can be accessed from the internet via a compatible PC, smartphone, or tablet (much like cloud storage). What makes this WD duo stand out is the storage protection against hackers and malware. The WD My Cloud brings a personal private cloud experience, and storage solution outfitted with enough number of ports and other features.

WD MyCloud Storage Solution

The Original My Cloud. Prices range from Php7k to 11k, depending on capacity.

  • "Plug and play"
  • Back up files from all your computers
  • Upload, access and save photos and videos from your mobile devices
  • Blazing-fast file transfers
  • Expandable storage
  • Centralize your music collection and play it on any computer with iTunes
  • Easy to set up, easy to find on your network
The WD MyCloud is indeed an affordable, single-bay NAS with mobile features for people on the go. Clearly, the target market here include young startup professionals who always go around the city with a bag full of gadgets.  The storage solution from Western Digital also addresses the main issue with most cloud services, where storage space can hold you back. Storage options abound, in the case of the MyCloud, with capacities ranging from 2TB to 4TB. You can even further expand that with a USB 3.0 port.

WD MyCloud EX4 NAS

The EX4, meanwhile, comes equipped with the same nifty tricks being offered by the original My Cloud. The four-bay enclosure (of the EX4, see above) features RAID support. Capactities on this one can climb up to 16 whopping Terrabytes, too!
