With the average temperature now much warmer and following the rainy showers that April brings, May is a month when both flora and fauna are really flourishing with the increasing amount of flowers attracting more and more insects. Animals have ended their hibernation throughout the colder winter months and are stocking up their food supplies with the abundance of new shoots, nectar and seeds.Many animals are continuing to court and mate and signs of this can be heard throughout a variety of different habitats including the grunts from hedgehogs and distinctive bird song. Subtle changes also occur in some species including male sand lizards that develop their beautiful green color to attract a female. Badger cubs that were born underground last month also begin to really start exploring their new surroundings.
