Here is Bandi Mbubi's thought-provoking speech from TEDxEXETER. He raises a very important question which I think we have all overlooked, we demand fair trade food, fair trade clothes, why don't we demand fair trade technology? Our phones, laptops, ipads, kindles etc... are all full of minerals which are mined in horrific conditions in the Congo (among other places). Where corruption has meant that the mines are owned and run by militants and rebels. If companies such as Apple can seek to fund fair trade mining then the conditions of these people's lives can be brought up to fair and equal standards. Human rights are for all, not just those who can demand them. I've written more about this cause in this post, also see the website I have helped develop, here.
