Since late last year, Banawe has been my family and I's go-to place when dining out because of the quiet neighbourhood's wide selection of restaurants. Let's say you want Chinese cuisine for lunch or Japanese cuisine for dinner, you will certainly find the perfect restaurant here.
In my case, I wanted a dim sum for dinner. Yes, the small bite-sized dish placed in small steamer baskets or on a small plate which you can easily find. In fact, there are numerous stalls, shops and restaurants that offer that in malls. However, this specific restaurant in Banawe offers delightful AND inexpensive dim sum choices.
The place is called Wangz Seafood Restaurant.
They have a nice and simple restaurant with a black, brown and white colour scheme. Their restaurant is well-ventilated, well-lit and clean. Moreover, they have a total of three floors. The first is for walk-ins and features a number of tables but has limited space for diners to move around. If in case you are celebrating with family and/or friends, don't worry because their other floor is open to accommodate more people.
In terms of service, let me say that our first visit wasn't that pleasant. The waitstaff was not at all friendly. It seemed she didn't like diners asking a question which made it very difficult to talk to her. Don't get me wrong. I understand that maybe she was tired and all but it was our first time in that restaurant. Therefore, it's normal for us to ask and take a little time because we weren't familiar with the dishes they serve. Moreover, service was quite slow but in their defense there were several customers that night.
Moving on...
Wangz Seafood Restaurant offers an all-day dim sum promo. Their list of dim sum choices are wide and interesting. Good thing the ones we ordered are really good. It was so good that we decided to visit them again to try their other dim sum offerings despite our first dining experience.
This time we had a better dining experience. After parking, kuya guard welcomed us and ushered us to our seats. Then the waitstaff who took our order was kind and accommodating. In fact, even the other ladies who served us the dim sum were also nice (except for that one person I mentioned earlier). It's also worth mentioning that the service was faster this time despite the number of diners.
Now onto the food. On both occasions, we were able to try the following:
Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf (Php55)
Prawn Chives "Ku Chay" Dumplings (Php65)
Prawn Dumpling Ha Kaw (Php65)
Seafood Bundle (Php55)
Spareribs in Black Bean Sauce (Php45)
Stuffed Beancurd Roll (Php55)
Camaron Rebosado (Php200)
Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup (Php150)
My family and I love all these dishes but there are some notable ones which I urge you to try.
First is the Prawn Chives "Ku Chay" Dumplings. I've had this before in a different restaurant but Wangz Seafood Restaurant's version has a flavorful medley at the beginning and ends with a delicious kick. Next is the Seafood Bundle and Stuffed Beancurd Roll. Despite their plain outer appearance, they're full of surprises.
Besides these, their Camaron Rebosado and Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf are also worth a try. The Camaron Rebosado is simply a deep-fried battered shrimp dish. Make sure to ask for the sauce because it levels up the dish. The Glutinous Rice in Lotus Leaf; on the other hand, is fun to eat. It's basically steamed sticky rice and meat wrapped in Lotus leaves or Lo Mai Gai (Cantonese) aka Nuo Mi Ji (Mandarin).
