Walt Disco – ‘Cut Your Hair’

Walt Disco have shared the video (directed and filmed by the band themselves in the Glasgow flat that they share) for new single ‘Cut Your Hair’. Inspired by ‘female, queer pop and dance music’ with the aim ‘to get people moving’, lead singer James Power says: ”Cut Your Hair’ was written as a wee fun jibe at people passing judgment to those who are just being themselves. I think older generations can learn a lot from us YOUNG HARD AND HANDSOME folk. I mean our generation are the most tolerant and accepting, ever, and we should all aspire to live in a world where self expression and free speech is championed.’

Produced by Gang of Four’s Thomas McNeice, the song flits between punk, art rock and new wave (think Talking Heads meets Mush with a guest appearance from Adam Ant yelping the title) as James rallies against people who are ‘stuck in the past’ and the way they take out their frustrations about their daily grind on anyone who acts or looks ‘different’. The brooding bass and beats make way for an epic guitar solo – and dance routine – as this gothic, queer anthem reaches its climax.
