Every Sunday we’ll pluck just one walk from the vast London Walks repertoire and put it centre
stage.
You can check out the full schedule at www.walks.com.
But if you only take one walking
tour this week, why not make it…
THE OLD PALACE QUARTER
Hidden Courtyards, Secret Passageways & Antique Arcades
2.30 pm on Wednesdays from Green ParkTube Green Park exit (meet in the park, by the fountain)
There's no need to book. A London Walk takes about two hours and costs £10 or £8 for concs. (kids under 15 accompanied by their parent[s] go free)
London Walks pen and Daily Constitutional Special Correspondent David writes… This
neighbourhood – they don't make 'em like this anymore. And that's by way of
saying, "I'd put this one in the top four or five of the 56 different
walks that I'm personally able to guide. It's got everything I want in a
walk." 1) It's olde, vintage London. There are turnoffs – secret passageways
– that take you into the 16th century. And the 18th century is par for the
course. And it's so well preserved it's a miracle the whole neighbourhood
hasn't been sold off to a museum! 2) So, as you'd expect, visually it's very
appealing. 3) It's storied. It's storied because it's full of character, full
of characters, and marinated in history. 4) It's nooked and crannied.
Why is that
important? Well maybe it's just me, but I like to see things other people
don't get to see.
The Old Palace Quarter walk takes place every
Wednesday at 2.30 pm and every Friday at 2.30 pm
