NEW: Every Monday we’ll pluck just one walk from the vast London Walks repertoire and put it center stage.
You can check out the full schedule at www.walks.com.
But if you only take one walking tour this week, why not make it…
THE QUEEN'S JUBILEE WALK – NEW FOR SUMMER 2012!
Cry God for Elizabeth, England and St. George!
2.30 pm on Mondays from WestminsterTube, exit 4
This walk is a series of flashbacks. Every one of them accompanied by that little shiver of delight: "oh, so this was where it happened." It's Queen, crown, country, courtiers, commonwealth, coronations, cavalry, corgis, close calls, catastrophes and a kingly caste. Let alone a contrail stretching back 14 centuries. It's pomp and playboy princes and 146 Piccadilly and HMQ's portrait in our purses and pockets and the Greek, the geek, the grind and the grudge. It's Lilibet's London and the London of "the only woman in the world who can put on a tiara whilst running down the stairs." It's the "all this" of Queen Mary's disbelieving words: "To give up all this – for that!" It's the back story. It's walking the stations of the crown – turning the make believe into the real. It's the great state occasions – and the nooks and crannies where "the other stuff" happened (the private, not-for-public-consumption stuff). It's where the Queen shops – and a taste of what she eats. It's the London Walks credo: getting in there – seeing for yourself – is to get it. Great walk.
The Queen's Jubilee Walk takes place every Monday at 2.30 pm
