Early Life

Wale was born in Washington, D.C. on September 21, 1984. He was born as Olubowale Akintimehin. His parents came from the southwest of Nigeria and both moved out of Austria and moved to U.S. in 1979. The year 2002 was the time Wale was a graduate of Quince Orchard High School. He began his career in football and went on to attend the colleges of Robert Morris University and Virginia State University on football scholarships. He later decided to step out of the game and concentrate on music, and started to make a name himself around the mid-2000s.

Career

The first single that received radio airplay was his 2006 hit single "Rhyme of the Century". He released his debut mixtape "Paint a Picture" the same year , and it began to draw the attention of media outlets such as The Source and The Washington Post. His song "Dig Dug (Shake It)" quickly became a hit within Washington D.C. and was in tribute to Ronald "Dig Dug" Dixon who was a drummer in the band Northeast Groover.

In September of 2006, "Uptown Roamers" debuted on XM Radio Channel 66 where it was played two times a each day. The track, along with his previous popular single "Breakdown" were featured on Wale's second mixtape "Hate Is the New Love." On January 7, 2007, Wale unveiled a single for radio known as "Good Girls."

When he released the third album in 2007 he was recognized as "D.C. Metro Breakthrough Artist of the Year", was noticed by Fader Magazine, and toured with Marc Ronson's UK Tour. He signed with Interscope as well as Allido Records in 2008. The album he released as his debut studio effort, "Attention Deficit", came out in 2009 to a praise from critics and climbed to 21st on the Billboard Hot 200. The album also included the hit song "On Chill." On the 19th of June 2020, Wale unveiled an albumtitled "The Imperfect Storm."

Wale's song "Lotus Flower Bomb" (featuring Miguel) made it to the top spot at the top of the US R&B chart. He has also been successful with his songs "Chillin" (featuring Lady Gaga), "That Way" (featuring Jeremih and Rick Ross), "Bag of Money" (featuring Rick Ross, Meek Mill, and T-Pain), "Bad" (featuring Rihanna or Tiara Thomas), "Ride Out" (with Kid Ink, Tyga, YG, and Rich Homie Quan) and many more.

Wale has been awarded BET Awards and was nominated for an Grammy Award for Best Rap Song for "Lotus Flower Bomb". 2013 was the year that Wale was awarded an Soul Train Award for Best Hip Hop Song of the Year for his track "Bad" featuring Tiara Thomas.

Other Ventures

Wale is divorced from his long-time partner Chloe Alexis, but the couple have a daughter that arrived in the month of July. He owns a property situated in Atlanta, Georgia, but sublet a penthouse located in New York City.
