I’m sure that in home decor websites or magazines you’ve seen pictures of bedside tables that are drop dead gorgeous. If you want your table to be as eye-catching, here are some of the considerations for choosing objects to embellish it:
- Layering (using objects that vary in height)
- Color (are the objects on the table in the same color family?)
- Shape (should they be rounded or rectangular?)
- Texture (should they be rough or smooth?)
- Finish (do you prefer a matte or glossy?)
- Number of objects (in the design world it is usually an odd number, often 3).
Once you’ve chosen and acquired your items, you need to decide how to display them on the table. The design should flow so that it has depth and interest. The colors should complement those in the room. All these are critical to creating a tablescape that pops.
When styling your bedside table, you want the design to have a personality. That can be accomplished by adding family pictures and/or objects d’art that mean something to you. In this post, I’ve put together some design ideas and tips to help you create a bedside table that’s as nice as those you see in the pictures.
Bedside lighting comes in many different design styles, so choose a lamp that has a shade and base that accentuates and matches the decor of your bedroom.
Pretty in pink.
If you have a small table, let the colors of your lampshade and table complement each other, as well as the other colors in the room.
For lighting, consider hanging wall scones or pendant lights instead of using traditional table lamps. Doing this creates a focal point in your bedroom. It will also give you more space on the table to use more creative and unusual objects.
Maybe you’d prefer more glitz and glamor in your bedroom. When designing your bedside table, include the wall space just above it. You can mount a mirror or a gallery of artwork in this spot. You don’t want the items to be too distracting; you want to complement the space, not overwhelm it with. You can also lean the items against the wall. However you choose to mount them, you’ll still create a visually appealing tablescape.
Soften the look of your bedside table with fresh flowers or a touch of greenery. It’s a perfect way to add texture and shape to your table. Besides, fresh flowers and greenery always brings a smile to your face!
A decorative tray or box adds to the beauty of the table while serving as a placeholder for your small accessories (e.g. your glasses, jewelry and cellphone). It can also hold that book or magazine you love to read before bed. Another great accessory to put in the box is a candle; there’s nothing more enjoyable than the aroma of a scented candle!
Bedside tables are a staple in our bedroom; they are the first thing we see in the morning and the last thing we see at night. Let’s show it a little love by giving it some style!
