Although Volkswagen is focused on offering affordable electric cars to buyers, the German brand also plans to expand its EV authority in the near future with what is known as Project Trinity. On Wednesday, Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstaetter said in a LinkedIn post that Project Trinity will arrive with three main elements, as the name suggests.
On the one hand, the VW brand will introduce a new EV platform with Trinity. Second, the brand promised level 2 partially automated driving assistance, similar to General Motors' Great cruise Technology. Third, VW promises to build the EV with a "radically new production approach". These three pillars will underline the brand's technological innovation and "democratize" autonomous driving. Although the vehicle will start with level 2 assistance systems, VW said it will have everything it needs to be true Level 4 autonomous driving. We've heard this promise from other automakers before, and it hasn't exactly worked out just yet, remember.

Volkswagen did not immediately return Roadshow's request for comment on Trinity, but the signs point to this vehicle as the branded version of the previously announced Landjet project. The Volkswagen Group, which looks after the VW brand and many more, is planning an ultra-luxurious and state-of-the-art EV for Audi, Bentley and Porsche under the Landjet code name. According to previous reports, Landjet will arrive at Audi first, with Bentley and Porsche versions to follow. It's not clear how much Trinity will share with Landjet, whether they keep ties or when we'll see VW's new idea. We honestly don't even know what kind of vehicle we'll see at some point; The jury is not sure whether the VW group has planned a big old SUV or some kind of low-lying flagship sedan.
In the meantime, VW will continue to support that ID 3 in Europe and are preparing ID 4 To begin production in several parts of the world, including here in the US.
