The phone does retain this highlight features of Vivo V5 i.e. the 20 MP selfie camera and Moonlight selfie flash. Let us see how the phone fared in our detailed Vivo V5s Review.

Vivo V5s Review: Build and Design

In terms of design, Vivo V5s is not much different from its predecessor. Vivo V5s comes in a polycarbonate unibody construction with metallic design, similar to the V5. The iPhone inspiration in design and icons still remains the same, however, the phone is unique in its own ways.

The Vivo V5s is a slim device and feels good to hold. The curved body helps in an easy grip.  The antenna lines on the back are tucked on the top and bottom that gives the back panel of the smartphone a clean and elegant look. The placement of antenna bands is similar to the Vivo V5 Plus.

The phone on the front is not too different from the Vivo V5. The selfie camera is located on the top. The cluster of sensors, notification LED, and the moonlight flash is located on the other side of the earpiece. The fingerprint sensor is placed under the home button and two capacitive backlit buttons on either side.

The volume rocker and the power buttons are placed on the right of the device while the hybrid SIM card slot is on the left side. Top and bottom sides of the phone are button less. A 3.5 mm headphone jack is located at the bottom along with a mic, micro USB charging port, and a speaker unit. The finishing of the ports and button is quite neat and sturdy and the buttons are ergonomically placed.

Vivo V5s Review: Display

Vivo V5s comes with a 5.5 inches 720 x 1280 pixels IPS display with a pixel per inch density of 267 ppi. The display is protected by a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass on top. The display is relatively bright and sunlight legibility is good. The viewing angles are good, but the lack of sharpness is evident while playing games with HD content or watching HD movies. The 720p screen is a bit of a let down as a lot of other devices in this price range come with a full HD display.

Vivo V5s Review: Software

Vivo V5s comes with Funtouch 3.0 UI on top of Android 6.0 OS, while the Android 7.0 Nougat has been available for some time already. It would’ve been great if the Vivo V5s came with the latest Android OS. There is no official confirmation of it receiving the update either.

As we mentioned in our Vivo V5 Plus review, the funtouchOS is highly inspired by iOS and even the quick toggles and settings open when you slide up from the bottom rather than the top.

There are a lot of customization options available under the setting option of the smartphone. Gestures, smart multi-screen, one-handed mode, super screenshot and a lot more options are available under the settings.

A phone manager app present in the phone lets you clean the phone and helps you manage the data usage. A theme manager app that comes pre-installed lets you download additional themes, wallpapers, fonts and lock screens.

An app clone feature is also present in the phone that lets you run multiple instances of WhatsApp on the phone. The V5s also comes with Hi-Fi DAC, a custom audio chipset to provide Hi-Fi music through headphones. This feature can be enabled from the settings of multimedia apps.

Vivo V5s Review: Camera

The Vivo V5s comes with a 20MP front-facing selfie camera along with a moonlight selfie flash. The Vivo V5S houses a Sony IMX376 sensor with F/2.0, 5P lens and a 13MP rear camera with LED flash.

Since the highlight of the phone is the front camera, there are some updates like a group selfie feature that lets you take images with a 145-degree view.  Overall there is no change in the camera hardware as compared to the V5.

I’m not a great fan of beautification mode and I prefer unprocessed images as the Face beauty app present in the phone softens the face so much that it starts looking artificial. Also, the selfies taken from the phone are still overexposed and the background is washed out in most of the cases as was the case with Vivo V5.

The rear camera can click some decent images however you can’t expect much from it anyways. There is visible noise in the images when zoomed in hence we maintain the verdict of V5s. The rear camera performance of Vivo V5s is strictly average. The video quality of both front and the rear camera was decent.

Vivo V5s Review: Battery

V5s comes with a 3000mAh battery pack. The battery backup was decent and with moderate usage like browsing the Internet, clicking images, a couple of calls and streaming a few youtube videos, the battery did last easily over a day which was good in a regular scenario. Vivo V5s does not support fast charging which was another letdown.

Vivo V5s Review: Performance

The V5s comes with a MediaTek MT6570 Octa-core processor clocked at 1.5Ghz along with Mali T860 GPU. This is not a very powerful processor but with the bundled in 4GB RAM, the phone does not disappoint. The Vivo V5s did not hang or lag at all during our extended usage and overall performance was fairly smooth.

You won’t face any issues while playing casual games. Although a higher resolution display was missed and frame drops were noticeable only during playing graphic intensive games. Vivo V5s supports VoLTE, Reliance Jio 4G sim worked perfectly fine and offered decent speeds while day to day usage. The fingerprint sensor on Vivo V5s is really fast and accurate. It unlocks the phone 9 out of 10 times and pretty quickly too.

The phone offered around 53GB out of 64GB internal storage. Vivo V5s supports VoLTE, Reliance Jio 4G sim worked perfectly fine and offered decent speeds while day to day usage. With the price at which V5s is being offered, we expected a better processor.
