Vivo V27 Pro Review: Perfect Phone to Capture Indian

Posted on the 03 March 2023 by Geetikamalik

Slim, stunning, and color-changing — these are the words that best describe the Vivo V27 Pro, which launched in India recently. Along with the V27 Pro, the smartphone brand also unveiled the vanilla Vivo 27. However, my focus today will be on the V27 Pro, which boasts an interesting array of specifications and, most importantly, a rear panel that changes color — a feature previously seen in the Vivo V25 Pro and V23 Pro. Additionally, Vivo has incorporated a special wedding-style portrait feature in the camera, which caters to wedding-obsessed Indian users.

In terms of pricing, the Vivo V27 Pro starts at Rs 37,999 for the 8GB/128GB variant and Rs 42,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant. Interestingly, the OnePlus 11R with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor comes at a similar price tag. However, a comparison between the two smartphones is a topic for another day. In this review, I will assess whether the Vivo V27 Pro is worth considering as your next smartphone purchase.

Vivo 27 Pro: Design
Upon unboxing the Vivo V27 Pro, I was immediately drawn to its aesthetically pleasing design. The phone features a rectangular camera module at the rear, which includes three cameras. Instead of a typical LED flash, the phone has a ring flash light that Vivo calls an Aura Light, inspired by selfie ring lights used for shooting reels and pictures. The camera module has a smooth matte finish, while the rear panel has a glittery matte finish. The phone comes in Magic Blue and Noble Black color options.

I received the Magic Blue color variant for review, which changes colors as soon as it is taken out into the sunlight. According to Vivo, the device switches from a light blue to a deep blue color within 3 seconds. While that is interesting, I was also impressed by Vivo’s color selection for the Vivo V27 Pro. The Magic Blue color is not only soothing to the eye but is also a huge departure from the flashy, glittery rear panels that have become popular lately. However, the glossy frame on the Vivo V27 Pro appears a bit tacky and doesn’t complement the subtle rear panel of the device.

Moving on to the front facade, the Vivo V27 Pro features a tall 6.78-inch 3D curved display. Despite its height, the device is extremely lightweight, weighing only 182g. It also has a slim form factor, measuring only 7.36 mm thick.

I have used a few phones with curved displays over the past few months, including the Moto Edge 30 Ultra, the Realme 10 Pro+, and the Phantom X2 Pro, but found the Vivo V27 to be the slimmest. While I appreciate its slim form factor, I found that the phone doesn’t offer a solid grip and can be slippery, which makes it advisable to use the device with the case provided in the box.
