Destination Abbey Road

On a recent trip to London with Mr & Mrs Foodie, and old Father Foodie one of the main attractions I wanted to visit was Abbey Road. Home of the famous recording studios and of course that zebra crossing.

Whilst the Foodies were at an all-day event, Old Father Foodie and I decided it was the perfect time to make our move.

After a half hour bus journey, we arrived at our destination - the bus stops is just a few yards from Abbey Road Shop.

Following the obligatory photos outside the shop and studio, we ventured into the gift shop. As a massive Beatles fan, I was like a kid in a sweet shop. Old Father Foodie was slightly more reserved. As expected, the prices weren't exactly bargain basement, but reasonable enough for me to purchase a couple of items.

There was a heavy push towards publicising the re-release of The Yellow Submarine movie, as it was the 50th anniversary of its original release, accompanied with the usual merchandising campaign. With an abundance of stock ranging from plectrums, pens etc, to limited edition prints, vinyl, there was something for everyone's budget. I plumped for an Abbey Road street sign keyring costing £6, and a guitar strap costing £35 for my bass guitar. The strap now adorns my Beatles inspired Epiphone viola base.

Once the shopping was done, I had to get some photos of me walking along the legendary Abbey Road crossing. Old Father Foodie found a great spot beside the road monument and clicked away. Unfortunately, road works were on both sides, and the weather wasn't the greatest. As a result, I couldn't do a barefoot crossing like Mr McCartney. Overall, the visit certainly met my expectations, and I would definitely recommend a pilgrimage to anyone considering going.
