Story: Viking Wolf starts as we learn the legend behind Vikings bringing a strange wolf from France back to Norway. 1000-years-later teenager Thale (Osborne) moves to a small town with her family and police officer mother Liv (Mjönes). Like any teenager, Thale is trying to fit in and joins the other local teens at the local drinking spot. However, this doesn’t go smoothly, as one of the other teenagers is attacked by an unseen creature.
As the morning comes, Liv joins the investigation to find the missing teenager, discovering a gruesome set of remains. Meanwhile, Thale starts noticing changes in herself and her injury gets worse. Liv calls in an animal expert, while also getting a warning from a hunter claiming it was a werewolf attack. She must look to protect the town and her daughter from whatever is out in the woods.
Verdict on Viking Wolf
Viking Wolf is an action horror which takes us to Norway for the latest werewolf movie. It follows a relocating family trying to settle in when the teenage daughter finds herself involved in an animal attack. This leads to her police officer mother leading the investigation into what caused it.
We don’t get many werewolf films, but every now and then we get a fun one. This could easily be called ‘French Werewolf in Norway’ because it is done in the same tone as the American Werewolf movies. It has disturbing visions after the attack, and it has the hunt for a werewolf, leading to the legends behind it. There is a big transformation sequence though it relies heavily on CGI. It is nice seeing a werewolf tale remaining within the modern world, without getting too heavily held back by supernatural elements.
Where to Watch: Viking Wolf is available on Netflix now.
Final Thoughts –Viking Wolf is a fun addition to the werewolf movies.
