i got this subway map from 1972 for 1$ at some conference like 10 years ago, i often saw it on ebay for a stack of dollars, its hard to think that this piece of paper is 40 years old. Note that at that time it wasnt called a subway map but a subway guide. Chinobyi gave us a 411 about it :
The Massimo Vignelli map. Most hated this design when it first came out in 1972. The rivers are cream colored, parks are beige, it’s not very geographically accurate… but the diagram was simple. The color coding system he created is still used today.
