Vietas: Lapland’s Greatest Heist

By Pamelascott

It's the week before Easter in 1971, and at the local power plant in rural Lapland, the workers are heading out for the morning shift. But something's different - a safe has been robbed, and no one knows how. In Vietas, award-winning crime author Jenny Rogneby explores the case of the missing money, why it was so badly handled and why, to this day, it remains unsolved.

This three-part true crime series is different: it features waterfalls and reindeers, but no murders. It a tale of a crime executed in a spectacularly specific way, but also of a small Swedish town in the middle of nowhere, where everybody and nobody is a suspect.

I tend to really enjoy true crime podcasts and this sounded like something I'd really enjoy. The others I've listened to in the past have tended to focus on much darker crime such as murder. This offered a nice change of pace. This podcast is well researched and well put together offering the facts about the heist, the failed investigation attempt, and the lack of a resolution as it still remains unsolved forty tears and also offers a more recent take on what happened. I liked the fact that local people who lived in the area at the time also offer their perspective on what happened. This is well researched and very enjoyable.
