In the last several months, Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela Sywnford de Beaufort) has been talking a lot about elephants and the rise in ivory poaching. The issue is not only important to Bauer van Straten as a tireless animal rights activist, it also happens to have a very personal connection. Because of her marriage to South African musician Abri van Straten, Kristin was given a connection to Africa and to a family that has been working to save the lives of elephants, rhinos, and other African wildlife for many years.
This connection as well as continued involvement with International Fund With Animal Welfare (IFAW) inspired Kristin to want to do more than simply lend her voice to this cause. In collaboration with IFAW, the actress plans to take a film crew to Africa for a documentary called Out for Africa about ivory poaching. The documentary will interview people on the ground who are working to combat the problem on a daily basis and shed a light on just how much it has affected animals in Africa.
But Kristin can’t do it alone which is why she has launched a Kickstarter project to fund the documentary with lots of fun incentives thanks to the cast of True Blood. There are signed EW magazine covers from cast members, phone calls, Skype chats, google hangouts, posters, wrap gifts, and memorabilia waiting for those of you who decide to back the project! As of this post over $5,000 has already been pledged with a goal of $30,000 by August 19th. You can pledge your donation by going here.
