On September 6th the 2012 VMA’s will be broadcast on MTV. Last year was said to be one of the best VMA’s since the earlier 2000s. Now this year, the VMA’s will have an entirely new set and artists, from Skrillex to One Direction. The fans say they are excited for this VMA’s because they will have every type of music and the show is supposed to have some crazy surprises.

First off, One Direction just sold 12 million units worldwide,  helping land their nomination and performance for the VMAs. Since the boys released their album, Up All Night, in March they have gotten huge sales. They have sold 8 million of their single “What Makes You Beautiful”, 3 million albums and 1 million DVDs totaling 12 million unites in less than a year. The group’s album went platinum in the U.S. and their album is the second biggest selling album of the year. It really doesn’t seem shocking that for the 2012 VMAs they will be performing. Liam Payne, part of One Direction, said, “I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion”. He then proceeded to say, “I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we’ll do so far.” In addition to performing the VMAs they are working on their second album.

Last year, Lil Wayne closed the 2011 VMA, wearing leopard print leggings. This year he is going to make a major impact because of his plethora of nominations for him and his YMCMB team. In an interview with Weezy he said that he was humble about his video “How to Love” nomination for Best Video With a Message. His group has a couple of nominations for Drake and Nicki Minaj.

The biggest rivalry this VMA is between the Best Rock Video nominations. The nominations are Black Keys, Coldplay, Jack White, and Linkin Park. The veterans of these groups are Coldplay and Linkin Park and the new guys are Imagine Dragons. A lot of fans are going for Coldplay, but the Black Keys are bringing their fans into the mix.

In a whole different genre of music, the rivalry between group members of YMCMB and Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music is heating up. Fans, especially me, can’t choose who is their favorite for Best Hip-hop Video category. There is something for every rap fan with Kanye’s “Mercy”, Nicki’s “Beez in the Trap”, Childish Gambino’s “Heartbeat”, and Drake’s “HYFR”. Drakes seem to be the one that will win this one because of his different take on “HYFR” video. However, Nicki Minaj’s video looks like a sure thing for her to win with 2 Chainz and a strip club.

Ultimately, it’s all up to the fans.

Tune in September 6th at 8p.m. ET/PT to see your favorite artist win or lose.
