With all of the excitement that’s been swirling around the premiere of True Blood season 4 in less than 2 weeks, it can be easy to forget that there are more important issues in life than where has Sookie (Anna Paquin) been, whether you prefer Bill (Stephen Moyer), Eric (Alexander Skarsgård), Alcide (Joe Manganiello), or Sam (Sam Trammell), or even if you’ve registered for HBO Go yet. There is one person who is pretty good at balancing True Blood and real world issues however; Kristin Bauer van Straten (Pamela De Beaufort). She might play a vampire who doesn’t seem to care about much on television. But in real life, Kristin is a lover of animals and tireless activist for their rights.
Her most recent campaign with the Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) on behalf of a tiger named Tony caught a lot of attention thanks in part to Kristin doing a video about Tony as well as using her celebrity to get him out of the conditions he is currently experiencing in Louisiana. Because of this effort, Tony will now be moved to a place more suited to his needs in December, but there is a push to make that sooner. Obviously tigers like Tony don’t belong on display at truck stops in Louisiana. But what about other animals like those we see on television or in the movies or even at the zoo?
ALDF has launched a short series called Bites with Kristin. Each week as a countdown to season 4, they will release clips from Kristin’s interview with them. In the following segment, Kristin discusses with ALDF why she feels animals don’t belong in entertainment and why. Watch:
