Vgl Challenge Battles Split 1

Posted on the 22 December 2021 by Saraluck

On Dec 8th, the top three VGL teams of Split 1, namely Lemon & Lime, Late Cobras (former Fanatic Gaming) and Fluffy Chickens will take on the bottom three teams of the Vainglory 8: Rising Lotus, Denial eSports and mousesports – Matches will be played in a Best of Five format including the double ban draft format from Vainglory Eight

But who did the VGL teams pick?

LATE COBRAS VS mousesports (0 pts)

VGL
Cobras, you had second right to pick and chose to go for mousesports as your opponent for the Challenge Battles. We assume this pick was not meant to be as metaphoric as it looks to us?

Late Cobras
No, that’s correct. Of course we are looking forward to keep the metaphor alive in Saturday’s matchup but we picked mousesports instead of Denial eSports.

VGL
What were the main reason to pick them?

Late Cobras
We had the option to chose between 0 points and 3 points. The competition is currently very strong in Europe. That being said, the amount of points is not that important to us. We want to qualify for Vainglory Eight and improve as a whole team from there.

VGL
Thank you very much! We are looking forward to this matchup and wish you good luck!

Lemon & Lime VS Rising Lotus (8 pts)

VGL
Apfel123, you’ve had the first-pick priority for the Challenge Battles. Why did you chose the strongest enemy who did place 6th in the Vainglory Eight Split 1?

Apfel123
With Lemon & Lime, we clearly showed that we trained a lot to make it into Vainglory Eight. But for us, it’s not just about “making it”. We want to join Split 2 with the most amount of points possible. Rising Lotus own 8 points and we are planning to take them.

VGL
Taking the more “easy way” against the 7th or 8th seed never was an option for you?”

Apfel123
No, it was not. Joining Split 2 with little or zero points throws you out of the race for the Unified Live Championships in London. This is our current goal and that being said there is only way to achieve it – getting Rising Lotus’ points

VGL
How would you describe your chances of winning? Are there any clear weaknesses of your opponent? If you would describe the weakness of Lemon & Lime – which one would that be?

Apfel123
I’d still say that we have very little experience in comparison to the Vainglory Eight players. Of course we’re around for quite a while but sometimes we are a little bit too nervous, still. However, we are confident that we will win this matchup. The lane might be an even matchup, but I can see us dominate the jungle. This is where Rising Lotus lacks the most.

VGL
Thank you and good luck on April 8!

GAME THREE : 20:00 CEST

Fluffy Chickens VS Denial esports (3pts.)

VGL
You guys have to face Denial eSports – is this an enemy you expected to be left over?

AeOn
Well, after we did get the third spot, we expected someone to take Mouz for sure due to that it may appear easier to beat them. As for Denial eSports and Risining Lotus the difference isn’t too big. However, the points are important heading to Split 2.

We did kind of expect facing Denial eSports and we knew it was a big possibility.

VGL
How do you guys see your chancescoming into this match on April 8?

AeOn
As of our chances, for VGL we had our issues and miss-plays. We played poorly and we know we are capable of more. We do believe that in case we play well and do not do fatal mistakes in draft and play we should be able to take the series against Denial eSports but it’ll surely not be easy.

VGL
How do you think will double ban affect your game?

AeOn
As for the double ban, we surely love it and think it brings much more to the competetive scene and denies repeatedly seeing the exact same drafts
And we kind of have a wide hero pool specially in jungle and roam positions so we do feel that double ban benefits us and all other pros who learn to master a bigger amount of heroes

VGL
Thanks and good luck!
