"The best relationship advice I can give you is make sure you're crazy."
If you feel that I am not the first person you would let go for relationship advice, let me set one thing straight. But, if you are here for my relationship advice, it should mean that I am not the first person you have been. So I am going to start with the number one rule in a relationship.
You do not need them. You always, always remember that you do not need your significant other. You do not need them to live, survive or breathe. The emphasis in a relationship is that you want the other person in your life. You have chosen to spend your time, and put your heart into this other person because you want to.
You also have to remember that they do not have the right to be in your life. They do nothing about you, or you, and they do not deserve to be in your life without reason - they have earned their place. Both of you have earned your sights. You both need equal time, love and care to carry on with your relationship, so that you stay healthy.
These things are so important because more often than not, when we are in the midst of emotions and thrilled to say "mine" to someone, we forget that they are not our whole world. Our own bodies, hopes and beliefs come first, and for the first time in this world. When you are all alone, and you feel like the world is working against you, the person who will always be there for you is yourself, and although your whole life should be filled with people you love, always Remember that your own self comes first.
This is coming from someone who was never in a relationship - but I was single. And by being single, I know that you need to appreciate the people in your life, but you also need to grow to appreciate yourself. You need to be comfortable sitting alone in a coffee shop, or be completely fine with saying "table for one please". And when I have suggestions for this, that's another story.
My final advice is that if you need relationship advice, or you need to work on an issue, talk to the person who is about it. The best people who can advise you about a relationship are the people in the relationship. Talk about it, and make it work with each other.
But in the end, if that doesn't work, the last piece of my advice, or really just one piece of my advice, is put first to myself.
