Verdict on Petition Against State Minister Gamage on July 25

The Court of Appeal’s decision regarding the petition filed requesting to issue a writ disqualifying State Minister Diana Gamage from holding a Parliament seat, as she is a British citizen, was postponed to July 25 yesterday.

Earlier, it was announced that the decision will be made on June 6 (yesterday). The hearing related to the petition was completed by the Court of Appeal on April 3. In the petition filed by Oshala Herath, a social activist. State Minister Diana Gamage, Controller of Immigration and Emigration, Public Security Minister, General Secretary of Samagi Jana Balavegaya MP Ranjith Maddumbandara, Election Commission and its members and the Secretary General of Parliament and others have been named as respondents.

The petition states that a citizen of another country cannot hold a Parliamentary seat according to the Constitution of the country.
