Oh My...I love a veil. I guess it is because it is just so symbolic of the wedding day! But wearing a veil was not always just a fashion statement. In fact wearing a mesh cloth across your face was done so to save your soon to be husband's life. I guess back in the wild days (as if these are not wild days!) a man could be killed over the beauty of his bride in the hopes that the killer would then be able to win her over. A novel approach but not one I would deem romantic.
The veil was also heavily used in arranged marriages where the identity of the bride was kept a secret until the commitment was made. Talk about rolling the dice!!!
I must admit to all of you...the veil was one of those things that I really put my foot down with my daughter. Much to my surprise, she gave no resistance although I am sure it would not have been the veil she would have chosen for herself...why? ...because it is over the top but it is also the veil of royalty. My daughter has always been my princess and so for me it was fitting.
OK now that I have you on the edge of your seats...it was the cathedral veil which I personally like to call the Italian veil which of course is not only warn by Italians but it is a huge statement. The way we like to do things.This veil is very long and cascades over the back of the dress. It is a stunner in the length alone so you can really choose one that is very plain and still have a stunning effect.

Truth be told you don't even have to wear a veil but since this blog is about veils we will talk about the options at another time. 
www.dhgate.com The short veil looks great with a tight fitting gown or even one that is short. It is often accompanied with a small hat so that it attaches to something.

And there is the puffy veil which was a big deal in the 80's and since that is almost vintage will soon be making a come back.
