The Vehicle Importers’ Association of Sri Lanka has expressed optimism that vehicle imports will resume in February next year.
During a media briefing held in Colombo, the association announced plans to engage with the President in the coming days to ensure the process is executed appropriately.
Indika Sampath Merinchige, the association’s President, stated that the government has assured vehicle importers that approval for imports will be granted in the near future.
He further mentioned that the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has agreed to allocate the necessary financial resources, provided vehicle imports are permitted by February 2025. Additionally, he noted that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has endorsed the resumption of vehicle imports.
