Vegan Food on the Go: Urban Fruit

By Natalie Tamara @thetofudiaries

I have a confession to make: I’m a bit rubbish when it comes to eating fruit. Is it the effort that goes into preparing it or is it the food itself? I’m not sure, but I’ve never been a big fruit eater. It’s not that I dislike it but, other than berries, I just find it a bit hard-going unless I can neatly slice or chop it first. Vegetables on the other hand, I could eat all day, every day!

Having said that, I’ve come along way lately and have been finding new ways to get more of it. Sliced apple with peanut butter has become one of my favorite afternoon snacks, I’m getting into good habits of eating fruit with yoghurt (Alpro strawberry & rhubarb soy yoghurt is my fave) for breakfast, and my last recipe was even fruit-based.

The thing I find hardest though is when I’m on the go; my favorite fruits aren’t especially travel-friendly so I am guilty of finding the occasional three-day old apple in the bottom of my bag from time to time.

I was pretty delighted then when first picked up a bag of Urban Fruit in my local supermarket. Urban Fruit create bags of delicious, gently baked fruit that count towards your five-a-day. Made with absolutely no other ingredients than pure, ripe fruit, it’s free from sulphates, added sugars, oils and, well, anything other than the fruit, Urban Fruit bags are basically fruit but much easier to carry around. Since Urban Fruit is available in plenty of mainstream stores and independents, I can’t think of a much better unprocessed snack to pick up when you’re out and about.

Urban Fruit have a pretty impressive variety of fruit on offer too – I recently tried out the mango, pineapple, cherries, strawberries and a tropical mix of pineapple, mango and coconut. All of them went down very well with me but my faves are definitely the strawberry and the tropical mix. Isn’t their branding just the cutest as well?

How do you get more fruit into your diet on the go?

I was sent these goodies by Urban Fruit to sample – all thoughts are my own and I was already a huge fan!
