Urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection in any part of your urinary system-such as kidneys, ureters, bladder and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract-the bladder and the urethra.

Comparing to sex women is at greater risk of developing a UTI than men. Infection of bladder can be painful and annoying. However, serious consequences can occur if a UTI spreads to your urinary system.

What are the Signs and Symptoms of UTI?

Urinary tract infection has following signs and symptoms as described:

  • A burning sensation when urinating
  • Frequency of the urine may decrease
  • Urine that appears cloudy
  • Strong smelling urine
  • Pelvic pain in women -especially in the affected part of the body and pelvis and around the lower area of pubic bone.

What are the Main Causes of UTI?

The main causes of urinary tract infections (UTIs) are caused by the bacterium Escherichia coli (E.COLI), usually found in the digestive system. Chlamydia and mycobacterium bacteria can infect the urinary tract but not the bladder.

UTIs are given different names depending on the location of affected part. For example:

  • A bladder infection known as cystitis.
  • A urethra infection known as urethritis.
  • A kidney infection known as pyelonephritis.

What is the Ayurvedic View of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

The channel carrying urine waste is called mutra vaha srotas in Ayurveda. The origin of the channel begins at the kidneys, the bladder is the container, the ureters are the passageways, and the end or opening is the urethra.

According to Ayurveda, UTIs are due to an imbalance within pitta dosha. Ayurveda’s wisdom offers guidelines to balance pitta dosha and strengthen the urinary tract in order to avoid recurring infection.

Main factors that aggravate pitta dosha and contribute to UTI are:

  • Eating foods that are too hot, sour, or spicy
  • Drinking alcohol
  • Suppressing the urge to urinate
  • Habitually retaining urine in the bladder for long periods of time
  • Exposure to extreme heat, and overexposure to sunlight.
  • Emotion of anger, impatience, jealousy.
  • Environmental factors such as working with fire, chemical, or toxic fumes.
  • Not drinking enough water.

What is the Ayurvedic Treatment of UTI?

3. Panchaguna Churna

It is an herbal preparation that helps to cure urinary tract infection and inflammation. It has antioxidant and diuretic effects on the body. This churna contain ingredients like Neem (Azadirachta indica), Amla (Phyllanthus emblica), Harad (Terminalia chebula), Nirgundi (Vitex negundo), etc.

4. Uerolex Syrup

Yoga

Do perform yoga poses that will help the kidney and abdominal area such as Cobra (Bhujangasana), Bridge (Setu bhanda Sarvagasana), and Bow (Dhanurasana) pose.

These help to massage and tone the kidneys and improve the function of genito urinary organs and also improve BMR (Basal metabolic rate) of the body.

Pranayama

Do practice Sheetali pranayama (cooling pranayama) or breathing exercise that is effective in reducing excess heat in the body.

 Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)

  1. Drink plenty of fluids and water. Hydration rate of the body has been linked to the risk of urinary tract infection.
  2. Increase vitamins C Intake.
  3. Drink unsweetened cranberry juice.
  4. Urinate consistently: urinate consistently and when the urge arises ensures that bacteria isn’t growing in urine that stays in the bladder. It’s also important to urinate soon after sexual intercourse in order to avoid any kind of infection and bacteria that may have entered the urethra.
