Use ribbon to make flowers

You might be familiar with the art of making paper flowers, but you may not know how to make flowers out of ribbon. The good news is that they are very simple to make and you only need a few basic supplies. All of which you can find at your local craft store. It's important to consider how flowers appear in nature as well as suitable colour combinations should you wish to use multiple colours or if you want to make a mixed bouquet.

Things you need:

- Colourful fabric ribbon

- Buttons to suit the colours of your ribbons

- Floral tape

- Floral wire

- Needle and thread

- Hot glue gun

Steps:
  • Choose a relatively thin ribbon. It should not be wider than an inch.

  • Cut the ribbon into 8 pieces. Each of which being 6 inches long. If the ribbon is thicker, you will only need 6 pieces.

  • Lay a piece of ribbon down and then another perpendicular to it. They should meet in the middle to form a plus sign.

  • Now add another ribbon diagonally across. It should also be centred.

  • Do the same with the fourth ribbon in the opposite direction.

  • Now add the remaining ribbons so that they are all evenly spaced apart. All of the middle points need to meet together in the centre.

  • Stitch all of the ribbons together through the middle point. This will hold them all together and in place.

  • Now start from one of the free ends of the ribbons and fold it over so that the end reaches the middle of your flower. Do this with all of the ribbons and stitch the middle again to hold all of the pieces in place.

  • Do not press the ribbons flat while forming the petals. You want them to be as 'fluffy' as possible.

  • Add a button to the middle of the flower. Secure with a stitch or hot glue.

  • Use some floral wire to create a stem and bend one end so that it forms a hairpin. Insert the wire through the base of the flower to secure the stem and twist it around.

  • Now wrap the wire with green floral tape.

  • Once you have created all of your flowers, you can place them in a vase and enjoy them at home, work, or even send as a gift.
