Use flowers for their cold fighting power

Flowers serve more than just one purpose. Sure, they will brighten up your home and help improve your mood, but there are also a number of flowers that can be used as home remedies and for their nutritional benefits. With autumn here, it's as good a time as any to start giving your body that important boost. While doing so, remember to look for these flowers and flower products.

Elderberry syrup or capsules are known for helping fight respiratory illnesses. Benefits include reduced swelling in the sinuses and other mucous membranes. This plant was only available in Europe at first. However, its popularity has lead to worldwide consumption.

Echinacea might not be the most attractive of flowers but it certainly has some potent disease fighting properties. Many people use this plant, or an extract from the flower, to help build a strong immune system. There are many ways of adding Echinachea to your diet. The most popular is by mixing the syrup with some honey for added antibacterial power.

If you are having trouble sleeping, you can use lavender oil on your pillow or even in a humidifier. When you have a cold or the flu, your respiratory tract can become quite dry. The moisture from the humidifier can help ease your symptoms while lavender offers various benefits including helpng you relax. Rest is extremely important when sick. Your body needs to invest all of its energy in fighting those nasty foreign invaders which means that you should take it easy. Getting enough sleep is important and, if you are struggling to fall asleep or stay asleep, you can rely on flower essential oils to help.

A fresh bouquet of your favourite flowers will also help boost your mood which is another great idea when you are not feeling well. A positive attitude is always a good idea when you are not well. It keeps your body on the right track and, remember, your body and mind are very much connected! Keeping one happy will help please the other too.
