Us Weekly: Taylor Swift’s new single drops on Friday, she’ll perform at the VMAs
I honestly can’t wait to see what unfolds with Taylor Swift this week. On Friday, Taylor deleted everything from her social media accounts, and then on Monday, she posted one creepy image of a snake tail swishing (swish swish). She obviously thought she was bigger than the eclipse. She obviously wants us to pay attention. So how will it unfold? What is the 2017 Taylor Swift Brand? Will she be leaning into her slithering, venomous snake-ness? Well, according to Us Weekly, she’ll be releasing a new single on Friday. And it will be pop.
The wait is (almost) over! Taylor Swift is releasing the first single from her upcoming sixth album on Friday, August 25, multiple sources exclusively tell Us Weekly.
“The song is poppy,” one insider tells Us, adding that the music video will also premiere later this week. Swift’s new album isn’t too far away either. “She’s being very secretive about it, but it’s going to be a really good one,” a second source adds.
After dropping her new single, the “Shake It Off” singer, 27, plans to head to the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, another insider tells Us. Swift’s former friend Katy Perry is set to host and perform at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday, August 27.

Of course she’s planning on going to the VMAs. But as I said early, dragons trump snakes. Game of Thrones is the bigger deal – why would she try to steal focus from the GoT finale?
You know what I think? This is just my opinion/theory, based off of my coverage of her from the past year: I think her album was done months ago. I think she quietly finished it back in the spring, and she waited to release it for several reasons. One, the court case against deejay David Mueller had to happen, and part of Taylor’s rebrand is going to be all about “Taylor, savior to women and sexual assault victims.” That’s just how it had to work logistically too – it would have been awkward as hell for her to drop an album in the middle of the court case. Two, I think she’s just hellbent on always releasing new albums in the fall – all of her albums come out in October or November, and if she releases the first single in late August/early September, that’s completely part of her established timeline. Three, I think she knows that she’s needed. Gossip has been dull as dishwater this summer and Tay knows we need The Taylor Swift Show. She wanted to wait until we were really desperate for her melodrama. I’m looking forward to it.
