The US on Thursday banned five companies from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for purchasing petroleum products from Iran.
In a tweet, US State Department spokesman Morgan Ortagus said, the United States has announced sanctions on five UAE companies because they bought petroleum products from Iran. Tehran has support for trade terrorism with Iran despite its embargo.
According to the US Finance Ministry, in 2019, these five companies bought thousands of metric tons of petroleum products from Iran’s National Iranian Oil Company.
The petroleum and petrochemical industry is a major source of revenue for Iran, which uses the funds it provides to strengthen terrorist groups.
So, if a country buys petroleum products from Iran, it means supporting terrorism. The statement also said that three out of five companies have also used incorrect documents to hide product purchases from Iran.
