Updated Wednesday Numbers: ‘Lone Ranger’ Fails Even Harder

Despicable Me 2 ended up making 34,3 million yesterday (including Tuesday late shows), to easily win the day.  The film has received an A cinemascore from audiences so far, and will continue to steamroll over the 5 day weekend.  The Lone Ranger was initially projected to do 15M yesterday. It actually made 9.7M, and walked away with only a B+ cinemascore. Not terrible, but it won’t have quite the legs. The Lone Ranger has a budget somewhere between 215-250M, and unless this thing picks up steam, there’s no way it’s making that back. To be fair, that budget is ridiculous anyway. Kevin Hart’s Let Me Explain raked in 4.4 million from about 800 theatres. That’s also really good. It should take 5th place for the weekend, behind Monsters University and The Heat, both of which made about 5M on Wednesday.
