Craft beer drinkers like to ‘collect’ the beers they drink and compare them against beers their friends drink. With the proliferation of smart phones, one easy way to do this is to download an app that tracks beers and has a social aspect that allows the user to share that information. One of the most popular app of this type is Untappd.
Untappd has a vast data base of beers users can search for and then check-in to along with a rating, the location at which the beer was consumed, brief notes and a photo. When user reach certain thresholds they earn badges. For instance, a user that drinks 25 different beers is awarded an Apprentice badge, users that consume five different dark beers receive the Heavy Weight badge. Users can earn successive levels of badges by drinking five more unique brews in the badge’s category.
Because the collection of badges has become so popular, Untapped recently announce that it was adding several new badges to its lineup for users to earn. The new set of badges were voted on by users of the app and are just the first of more new badges to come.
The new badges are:
- Better Together
Check-in 5 different beers listed as collaborations between two or more breweries (up to Level 50). - Imperial Czar
Check-in to 5 different Russian Imperial Stout style beers (up to Level 50). - Liquid Lunch
Check-in to 5 beers between the hours of 12PM – 2PM on weekdays in a calendar month. - Hopped Up
Check-in to 5 different beers with an IBU over 65 (up to Level 50). - Dubbel, Tripel and Quad Oh My!
Check-in a 5 different beers with the style of Dubbel, Tripel or Quad (up to Level 50).
