The department specifies that this number, established for the week from 15 to 20 June, is “down” and it is to be compared with a revised number up (1, 540 against 1, 508 initially estimated) for the previous week.
This number, greater than the expectations of analysts who were counting on 1, 25 million new requests, illustrates the difficult decline in unemployment while the authorities are struggling to contain the COVID pandemic – 19.
Since mid-March, when the containment measures began to be implemented, more than 47, 2 million new requests for allocations that have been recorded.
The situation is very disparate in the United States in terms of health with for example New York which started its deconfinement after having stemmed the new coronavirus while in other States, in particular in Texas, new foci of infections have appeared.
