Understanding Everything You Need To Know About Cold Chain Transport

By Fashionbloggeritalia @PamelaSoluri

The transport industry in Australia is estimated to be worth over $100 billion. It's a massive industry that ensures produce and products are distributed across the country according to demand and need. Every day thousands of lorries move across the country with full loads.

Understanding Everything You Need To Know About Cold Chain Transport

Cold Chain transport is part of this network. The main difference with cold chain transport is that the temperature of all the vehicles is carefully controlled. Cold chain transport necessitates the use of refrigerated couriers which transfer items from one place to another while ensuring they stay within a defined temperature range.

Why Cold Chain Transport Is Essential

We live in a society that is used to instant gratification, even waiting a day for a new product can seem like an eternity. That's why so many lorries move products around daily. But, some of these items, such as fresh crops, flowers, and even electronic devices need to be moved within a certain temperature range. If they are transported at higher or lower temperatures they will be damaged.

Cold chain transport ensures these products are moved safely and properly between destinations. This allows them to be sold making the consumer happy and generating a profit for the shipper.

Monitoring Cold Chan Transport

The key to cold chain transport is in monitoring the temperature and reacting early if there is an issue. To do this all cold chain trucks are fitted with sensors. These track the temperature of the trailer and ensure it stays within range.

In most cases, the sensors can be monitored remotely and they will emit an audible alarm if the temperature gets close to its boundaries. This will allow the driver or the company to react, adjusting the temperature setting or even swapping trailers if there is an issue.

It should be noted that many companies are now offering temperature trackers that can be affixed to the packages. This allows the sender to monitor the temperature. However, this approach generally relies on a simpler system and, if the temperature moves out of range, the sticker changes color to alert the receiver.

Issues With Cold Chain Transport

No industry is perfect and the cold chain transport industry faces several issues which can affect its credibility.

The biggest of these tends to be a lack of documentation which makes it difficult for senders and receivers to confirm the temperature parameters have been kept.

They also struggle with constantly changing regulations when they are already on time limits. Even the best-refrigerated coolers need time to get from one destination to another, changing the regulations par way through can make it difficult for the truck to comply.
