'Under the Dome' Renewed for Second SeasonHot on the heels of a recent post about the success of the 'Under the Dome' show, comes news that CBS has decided to renew the hit series for a second season. That's right, what was once a summer mini-series has now expanded into at least two seasons, continuing to air next year in the same time slot. I guess CBS couldn't pass up on the ratings they were getting from the show, which I'm totally okay with, being a fan of the show and all.
Stephen King himself is set to write the second season's starting episode, and I'm sure he's pretty excited about, as much as we fans are perhaps. Obviously at this point its very clear - not that we didn't know - that the show has deviated from it's source material greatly. The show was only planned to be a mini-series, afterall. In order to expand it, I assume they had to create an ending that provided an opportunity for future stories. Of course, maybe that was the plan the entire time, I don't know. All I do know is that I'm quite happy to rejoin this universe again next year. I'm very much enjoying the show, and can't see anything drastic happening in the last half of this season to make me not watch it next year. Perhaps by summer 2014, I'll even have Under the Dome: A Novel read and be able to compare it to the show. I'll be sure to post some thoughts if so, but until then I'm going to keep watching to see how this season turns out.
