Umpires Lakpriya and Upul to Officiate in Malaysia

Lakpriya Edirisinghe the experienced Badminton World Federation Umpire and Badminton Asia Umpire Upul Gamlath will leave for Malaysia next week to officiate in the Malaysia Open 2022 (June 28 – July 3) and Malaysia Masters 2022 (July 5 – July 10) tournaments.

Both tournaments are premier tournaments in (Badminton World Federation (BWF) calendar and all the top world ranking players are fighting for prize money of USD 675000 and USD 360000 respectively.

Lakpriya Edirisinghe, a product of Asoka MV Colombo is one of the former National ranked Badminton players from 1993 to 2005 and have won many titles in his period. Later on, played National level and reached the National semi-finals level. He started his umpiring career in 1995 and at present, he is a Badminton World Federation qualified Umpire and Officiated in more than 100 International tournaments around the world. He was the first Sri Lankan Badminton umpire to officiate the last Paralympics held in Tokyo. He also has his own Lakpriya Edirisinghe Badminton Academy at Ragama where most of the Colombo suburbs’ badminton players get training.

Upul Gamlath is an Employer at Bank of Ceylon and became a Badminton Asia level Umpire in 2018. At present, he is the tournament Secretary of Nationalised Services badminton Association and he also toured many Asian countries to officiate in top-level tournaments.
