There are still many unanswered questions about future self-driving cars, and while we are still miles away from having such a machine, let alone an autonomous car for sale, countries are try to prepare for them.
The UK Department of Transport announced on Tuesday that it was planning new regulations to prepare for "automated lane departure warning systems". With systems like this, a car can potentially control all of the functions it needs at lower speeds, even in the city. It is probably a question of when this type of technology will be available and when will it hit the market. The UK is hoping for comprehensive regulations and is asking the relevant industries for input.

The current proposal would allow this type of automated system to operate on roads in the country at speeds of up to 100 km / h. This follows the regulations adopted by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe last June that allow this type of technology to work at speeds of up to 60 km / h.
Perhaps more importantly, future UK legislation aims to either define cars with automated lane keeping assistance as autonomous or not. In this case, automakers and technology companies would be legally responsible for the safety of the vehicle, since according to an "autonomous" definition, the driver would not be the one operating the vehicle when the system is switched on. This legal dance has made numerous automakers skip the line Level 3 automated systems and focus on levels 4 and 5, which give a car complete autonomy and do not require the vehicle to return controls to the driver in the event of a failure.
In essence, UK drivers would be legally allowed to rely on future automated systems without penalties, unlike today.
