Uh Oh. No ‘Green Inferno’?

Eli Roth’s next horror pic The Green Inferno was scheduled to open in a few weeks. The film actually has a solid rotten tomatoes score (77%), and marks Roth’s first feature directorial effort in six years. So, why then, is it being abandoned?

Supposedly, the shuffle has something to do with a battle over P&A, and who was supposed to be paying for it. Also noted, there has been very little advertising anyway. Distributor Open Road has pulled the film from release, leaving many to wonder if the film was just too controversial.

It should be noted that The Green Inferno did manage to obtain an R-rating, meaning that it isn’t that violent. It is still possible that Open Road is nervous about showing a film about cannibals, and is using the P&A as an excuse to pull the film from release. It’s even being noted that with no release date set, the film might go straight-to-video. I would think that Roth’s contract would demand at least a minor theatrical run at some point, as he is a fairly well recognized director. So whether or not it comes to a city near you is a much better point.

What will happen with The Green Inferno? Only time will tell…
