Uber Devour struck with claims of "reverse racism"Uber said it had received more than 8,500 arbitration requests following the abandonment of delivery charges for black-owned restaurants via Uber Eats.
Uber Eats made this change in June, following the racial justice protests against the police killing of George Floyd, an unarmed black man. Uber Eats said they want to make it easier for customers to support black-owned businesses in the US and Canada. To qualify, the restaurant must be a small or medium-sized business and therefore not part of a franchise. Conversely, delivery charges are still in place for other restaurants.
In one such statement, viewed by ProWellTech, a customer claims that Uber Eats violates the Unruh Civil Rights Act "by charging discriminatory delivery rates based on race (of the business owner)." This claim calls for $ 12,000 and a permanent injunction that would prevent Uber from continuing to offer free delivery from Black-owned restaurants.

Uber is no stranger to lawsuits, so this shouldn't come as a surprise. Uber is now facing a lawsuit over customer ratings and how the company disables drivers whose ratings drop below a certain threshold. The lawsuit argues that the system "constitutes racial discrimination, as it is widely recognized that customer ratings of workers are often racial."
In a statement to NPR, Uber called the suit "fragile" and said that "ridesharing has greatly reduced prejudice for both drivers and motorcyclists, who now have fairer and more equal access to work and transportation than never".
Yes, the Prop 22 gets another $ 3.75 million cash inflow
DoorDash invested an additional $ 3.75 million in the Yes on 22 campaign, according to a belated contribution statement. Proposition 22 is California's electoral measure that aims to keep gig workers classified as independent contractors.
The latest inflow of money brought Yes to 22 total contributions north of $ 200 million. As of October 14, the campaign had raised $ 189 million. But thanks to a series of overdue contributions, the total awarded to Yes on the 22nd comes to about $ 202,955,106.38, or $ 203 million.
Proposal 22 hit California's most funded electoral measure a long time ago, but has now passed the $ 200 million mark.
ProWellTech sessions: justice is back
I am pleased to announce ProWellTech Sessions: Justice is officially happening again! Save the date for March 3, 2021.
We will explore inclusive hiring, access to finance for blacks, Latinos and indigenous people, and workplace tools to promote inclusion and belonging. We will also look at the experiences of gig workers and previously incarcerated people who are often excluded from the Silicon Valley wealth cycle. Completing the program will be a discussion on the role of venture capital in creating a more inclusive technology ecosystem. We'll be discussing all of this and more at TC Sessions: Justice.
