Two Tone Kitchen Cabinets

I wouldn't call 2 tone or contrasting kitchen cabinets a new trend per se, but it is something I've been noticing more and more.  What do you think?
A very subtle difference - light gray and white. I pretty much love everything about this kitchen.  The wood beams, barstools, pendants, backsplash..

A very common approach is to only have the island contrast.  Is it just me or is the backsplash a different brick on each wall?

Very high contrast.  White cabinets with black countertop, and black cabinets with white counter top. This give a very chic effect.
