The two hotels in Port Moresby that I and my team have used so far are Crowne Plaza and Grand Papua. There are other choices (such as the more expensive Airways Hotel) but these two are preferred particularly because of their proximity to the office we’re working in. We have stayed in Grand Papua during our earlier visits but we eventually chose to stay in Crowne Plaza on our succeeding trips. Both hotels are expensive by international standards. Grand Papua is much newer but the team finds the older Crowne Plaza more homely and, in a place where movement is restricted because of security issues, feeling at home in a hotel matters a lot.
Situated side by side at the “Town” area of the capital, both hotels offer a great view of the Ela Beach and Walter Bay on the east and the Moresby Harbour on the west. I find it amusing that Grand Papua’s white structure somehow improves the view at the poolside of Crowne Plaza so I took these photos just after breakfast one morning. Perhaps I can do a more in-depth review of these two hotels in the future.
