Two Homes

The rush is on.

What to pack. What to bring. Where is the adaptor plug? Last minute phone calls. Last packages to send from my online shop. Saying good bye to Annie, Chelsea, Sacha, and Yann. Dealing with the range of emotions that come from leaving one home to go to another.

Already dreading the goodbyes on the other end.

Twenty seven years of this should make it easier.

Annie said, "I thought you were leaving Monday?"

"No, I leave tomorrow." I said as I gave her a big bag of freshly picked dandelion leaves that I collected on my walk. She carefully inspected the bag, sorting each leaf to be sure there wasn't a bad herb tucked inside.

I boiled the water, cooked the greens, then took out my haircutting scissors,

"Are you ready?"

Annie sat in the chair with a pink towel wrapped around her shoulders. White curls soft as a baby's fell to the floor.

"Oh," Annie sighed as she looked out the window, "Your mom is going to be happy. One month (sighs) I shouldn't complain your mom has to wait a year."

Kissing her on the cheek I agreed with her, "I am always missing someone."

Two homes.

Too happy.

But there is a price.
