Two underworld figures wanted in connection with two murder cases including a double murder were killed during a shootout with the Police STF personnel at Polwatte in Minuwangoda in the early morning yesterday.
Hewawasam Gamage Niluka (37) alias Mula of Poddala, Galle has been identified as the main gunman of the said double murder and the other suspect Milan Kosala (34) alias Junda of Mulana, Poddala is the one who rode the motorbike.
They had been identified as the main suspects allegedly involved in the murder of a barber at Uragaha area on August 24 and the murder of a father and his four-year-old son at Yakkalamulla, Galle on October 19, this year.
The suspects are said to be accomplices of the notorious underworld figure “Uragaha Indika”.
One of the STF members was also injured in this incident and he is receiving treatment at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital.
Based on the information received, the STF had raided a house in Polwatta, Minuwangoda, where the suspects were temporarily residing to apprehend them, during which the shootout had occurred. The STF officers found a T-56 firearm, a 12-bore shotgun and a knife from the possession of the suspects.Minuwangoda Police are conducting further investigations.
