An eight-year-old boy and his 59 year old grandmother drowned while bathing in the Pusse Ella waterfall in Meemure.
This child, a resident of Gemunu Pura Kuda Oya, had come to Meemure with his father to visit his grandmother. While bathing with the grandmother, the child had slipped and was swept away in the water. When the grandmother tried to save the child, she also had got swept away. Police say that the deceased are A. Ariyawathy (59) and her grandson Thenuka Sathsara Mihiranga (8).
The bodies were recovered by officers with the help of the villagers, the police said.
