Two people were killed and 16 others were injured in an accident where a bus traveling with a group of pilgrims collided with a container parked on the road at Ambanpola in the Padeniya – Anuradhapura Road at 2.45 a.m. yesterday.
The accident happened near Ambanpola town on the Anuradhapura-Padeniya Road. Ambanpola Police said that the accident happened due to the driver falling asleep. The group was returning after a pilgrimage to Kooragala. Police further said that two residents of Talawa who were traveling on the footboard of the bus died in the accident. The injured are being treated at the Ambanpola and Galgamuwa hospitals. Ambanpola Police are investigating.
